To be honest, I'm kinda surprised that I haven't seen any music store chains pop up. People like records, CDs, cassettes and so on for the same reason.

They did, but they waited until Amazon was ahead to do it. If I remember correctly they were more expensive than Amazon with no where near the selection of specialty stuff like computer parts or electronics. It meant that Sears was a place I basically never went to except if I was looking for something I literally couldn't find anywhere else.

Eh, I was just trying to be charitable. I haven't seen a lot of lgbt-phobic stuff on Lemmy (admittedly probably because I think my instance has defederated from the right-wing instances along with places like lemmygrad and hexbear) so I figured there was a >10% chance they were simply confused and possibly didn't realize that bears are a thing.

It's Cuba. They've been hamstringed by the US embargo for a very long time. I'm amazed they're doing as well as they are. My understanding is that, with the exception of medicine and food, basically anything that touches American soil or American hands (literally or metaphorically) is illegal to officially export to Cuba regardless of the country it's being sold in.

So for an example, any steel made in the US, manufactured for US companies, made using iron from the US, etc, may not be officially sold to Cuba. That doesn't mean a Mexican company can't buy the steel and resell it to Cuba; but it means Cuba potentially has to pay multiple tariffs and pay to have it bounced from the US to at least one other country before it can go to Cuba.

Furthermore, my understanding is that foreign companies with a US presence don't tend to do business with Cuba because the US will put pressure on them to stop doing business with Cuba.

The embargo needs to end. Cuba could have been the US' strange, goofy cousin with weird ideas about government and economy; because it seems like the Cuban government is making a legitimate attempt at a socialistic system. However, US capitalists ruined everything (iirc the embargo didn't start with the cold war, it started because Cuba overthrew the banana republic previously ruling them, which pissed off fruit companies. Said companies then cried to Uncle Sam because their slaves revolted and the US said, "you gotta pay them back for all the fruit they lost, plus interest".)

I swear I've come across an indie game that had great thunderstorms, but I can't remember what it was for the life of me.

That said, imo The Sims as a series has had good thunderstorms. Being outside can result in your Sim being hit by lightning, and iirc there are things that'll increase the chance of getting hit, like being wet, being in a pool, holding an umbrella, etc. I'm not sure which game has the best thunderstorms though.

VRchat has some worlds with really good ambience, and typically they include rain and/or thunderstorms to some extent. You don't actually need VR, you can play VRC on a normal monitor.

I've just realized that one of the things that Risk of Rain 2 is missing, is a persistent thunderstorm that gets stronger as the difficulty gets higher, lowering your visibility over time.

IO acquired the license voluntarily and had to convince the Bond owners to let them license the IP. So they're not swinging in the dark. Furthermore, Hitman is basically James Bond with a different coat of paint. I wouldn't be remotely surprised if all IO did for a tech demo to convince them was reskin Agent 47 and then play through the game as-is.

  • What actually is the deal with the concept of "projecting"?

Projection is the thing some people do where they accuse someone else of something they themselves do, especially when there is no reason to suspect the accused. It could be considered a form of self-report.

An example might be if a racist individual (lets call them Bob) accuses someone of racism (Joe) because they crossed a street. Joe may have had plenty of valid reasons to cross the street; maybe they wanted to go into the shop across the street, maybe their car was parked on the other side, maybe they saw a friend and wanted to surprise them. Bob, however, being a racist fuck, sees Joe cross the street, sees a black man walking down the sidewalk that Joe just left, and immediately jumps to the conclusion that Joe was crossing the street to avoid the black dude. The reality is that Joe didn't even notice the black guy, but Bob, being a racist fuck, assumes that Joe is just doing the same thing that Bob would have done.

    That is projection.

I'm not sure if that fully answers your question, though I will say I see people seemingly jump the gun a lot. Accusing someone of projecting is similar to accusing someone of arguing in bad faith; except instead of accusing them of arguing in bad faith, you're accusing them of making accusations "in bad faith", so to speak. However, like accusing someone of arguing in bad faith, some people will just use it to shut people down.

Thankfully, as a long-time Firefox user, I've never been pampered by this magical feature and so it's not something I miss. Perhaps a chrome exodus will cause Firefox to pick it up though.

Then again, I'm currently wearing a tinfoil hat that says, "Mozilla's CEO is a Google sleeper agent" so I'm about 50/50 on whether or not Mozilla will just straight-up fold in a couple years; but there's still the half that's hopeful!

I've always loved the insanity of 40's~60's era concept cars.

"What's that? 4 wheels are good? Well that must mean that 6 would be even better!"

"Nuclear energy!? We'll stick a buncha that into a car!"

"Wouldn't it be great if your car could detect a collision before it happened? Well, we're gonna stick radar (in the late 50's) on our car so it warns you before you hit something."

$150 for the WinRAR bag. $250 for a varsity jacket. Look, the designs are cool, but it appears that once again I will not be paying for WinRAR.

Edit: seriously; a $150 bag and they can't be assed to use a real buckle.

I recently saw a couple posts on techtakes and holy shit their members are, well, *awful*. Is this some kinda metajoke or running gag? Their members tend to have positive comment scores despite being massive assholes. That seems out of character for Lemmy which is why I'm confused and wondering if there's some kinda running gag I missed.

FurAffinity is the largest furry art host and social network; he could have sold out and allowed AI, or made the site friendly to corporate advertising, but he didn't. He intentionally didn't. If he had, he probably would have been able to afford healthcare, but *he didn't*. He died because he wanted to keep the site in the community instead of whoring it out to corporations, resulting in him not having the money for healthcare when he needed it the most. I wish I'd been more aware of what was going on because I would have chipped in to help (if he'd allowed it). It makes me fucking ***furious*** that the US, *the country with the highest GDP in the world* ***by 10 TRILLION DOLLARS***, still allows this to happen. RIP Dragoneer, we'll never forget you. Wherever you are, I hope it's filled with fur, feathers, scales and wagging tails. ----- Edit: made some formatting edits

Hey, I recently received a 14-day ban from lemmy.ml for this comment: ![](https://lemm.ee/api/v3/image_proxy?url=https%3A%2F%2Fpawb.social%2Fpictrs%2Fimage%2F66cc1956-8efa-48d7-82ea-0c0b176e556f.jpeg) While I suppose it wasn't the nicest thing I could have said, here's what bothers me. They cited rule 1 as the ban reason. Now, lemmy.ml's news community doesn't have its own rules section, so I was left to assume that they were applying the instance-wide "rule 1" which was, "no bigotry". No Bigotry. Apparently calling someone a tankie and a redfash accelerationist is bigotry? Are they seriously trying to equate being a tankie with being trans, gay, black and/or native american? Seriously? That's incredibly bigoted and offensive; and that's ignoring the fact that the common tankie idols like Stalin, Putin, Xi Jinping and Kim Jong-un are deeply intertwined with things like nationalism, ethnic superiority, queerphobia and the like. Meanwhile, their modlog shows that they've dealt with multiple instances of *actual* queerphobic bigotry by removing the comment while also letting the user go. Do we *really* want to be associated with bigots like that? The thing that sucks is that there are communities I genuinely enjoy on lemmy.ml, however getting banned for *bigotry* after calling someone a tankie and redfash accelerationist while actual bigots are allowed to keep hanging out on lemmy.ml is like a slap to the face. I'm honestly considering leaving Lemmy and social media at this point. It seems like my two choices are corporate-owned black-box algorithms populated by soft-spoken bigots and pissed-off centrists looking for an axe to grind, and FOSS-based federated platforms where you *still* have to tolerate bigotry because there apparently aren't enough users and interesting content otherwise. Inb4 I start getting harassed by lemmy.ml admins or something. ---- Receipts (click links for images) ---- [(Community ban)](https://pawb.social/pictrs/image/13ba5319-b87c-4f2a-80fd-512780df94dd.jpeg) [(Instance ban)](https://pawb.social/pictrs/image/eaeef3da-8b5c-486f-92d2-78f582f354e5.jpeg) [(No rules for lemmy.ml/c/news)](https://pawb.social/pictrs/image/4de47bc5-0e1c-453c-93b6-5491bec03ec6.jpeg) [(Rules for lemmy.ml)](https://pawb.social/pictrs/image/3104d488-476e-439d-8ac9-574988ee98ed.jpeg) [(Transphobia let off with a slap on the wrist)](https://pawb.social/pictrs/image/6b2e4f18-e852-4f76-a295-a7cb7f177bdb.jpeg) [(Queerphobia let off with a slap on the wrist)](https://pawb.social/pictrs/image/d472956a-b2b0-4cf7-9fd9-34df422a19da.jpeg)
