Kinda cool. To be honest I’m mostly posting this to test it.

    Edit: It works!

I approve of the overall message but indoor farming is kind of insane in the present day. It uses incredible amounts of energy and our scarce building materials to do something we can do much more easily outside.

Long term it might be important but I don’t think it makes sense until we solve the current energy crisis.

Yeah a lot of them don’t seem to be very committed to libertarian ideas unfortunately. The government isn’t the only force that can restrict liberty.

Similar to anarchism with a large overlap but I would say it includes other related ideologies as well. To be an anarchist I think you need to be very anti-capitalist and very anti-state. I think left libertarianism needs to be at minimum very skeptical of all authority structures but not necessarily opposed to them in all circumstances.

For myself, I’d like to get to anarchy long term but I see more of a gradual transition happening. So I am OK with retaining some state and capitalist structures as intermediate steps with the long-term goal of eliminating them once we develop superior social systems.

Not left libertarians (typically). I'm trying to reclaim this term from the right-wing chuds who have taken it over.

Yeah it’s an issue. But I find the leftist instances as bad or worse than LW in terms of the group-think. As long as you’re polite, at worst you get downvoted or insulted on LW but on Lemmy.ml you can be banned from the whole instance just for stating certain historical facts. The issue with Linkerbaan was they were quite rude in presenting his views.

Unfortunately, I’ve come to believe it’s a direct result of the nature of these platforms. I think we need innovation to create more positive and pluralistic communities. The platform itself incentivizes bad behavior, but what if it invented good behavior instead?

  • LibertyLizard LibertyLizard 13h ago 100%

No no, every single thing that ever went wrong in a ML country was caused by the CIA. If it wasn’t for them it would have been paradise. I mean wait, it was paradise. I mean… shut up!

I’d like to apologize for my part in this toxicity. I think I could have approached that thread in a more civil manner.

But maybe you can give me some advice for the future. What got me fired up was statements by people defending or advocating for indiscriminate mass murder. To me this seems beyond a mere ideological disagreement and it feels wrong to leave this kind of content unchallenged. But would it have been better to just report it and move on? I considered this but wasn’t sure if it constituted rule-breaking content per se. And I was wary of reporting something that might not be against the rules.

What is the best way to respond to this type of content which I unfortunately see all too often on Lemmy?

  • LibertyLizard LibertyLizard 2d ago 87%

I don’t have anything against .ml users as a whole. As you say, every instance has its bad apples.

But .ml has the most hostile and heavy-handed admins of any instance I know of. It makes it impossible to have real conversations because talking about certain topics will get you instantly banned from the whole instance. It’s not about socialism either. In fact that’s part of the problem—I’m a leftist myself who would like to discuss leftism there and I used to enjoy doing so, but at this point that’s only possible if you follow the admin’s ideological beliefs on practically everything to a tee. It’s a toxic environment where real conversations can’t take place.

  • Do you refrain from participating to a community if it's hosted on Lemmy.ml ?
  • LibertyLizard LibertyLizard 2d ago 80%

For me it was a blanket ban that finally caused me to unsubscribe from every ml community. If it wasn’t for that then it might be OK to keep hosting a non-political sub but the censorship over there is so aggressive and widespread that it’s very difficult to avoid.

I would say think about migration because if anything the problem is getting worse over time.

  • South Africa asks Taiwan to move embassy out of capital
  • LibertyLizard LibertyLizard 2d ago 100%

Officially, yes, but it’s complicated. Unofficially they’re no longer supporting that claim but it remains in the constitution. And ironically, there is concern that relinquishing the claim over the mainland might be perceived as a pro-independence move and would antagonize the mainland authorities.

  • Downvoted and banned for calling out user who urged "conquering" and "splitting up" Russia
  • LibertyLizard LibertyLizard 2d ago 100%

You need to post a screenshot modlog so we can see what you wrote and why they said you were banned.

Anyway I looked it up myself. I agree with your point and have been frustrated in the past by the echo chambers in the communities focused on the war in Ukraine but you were very rude and insulting to people so I can understand why you were banned. It’s not totally clear but the modlog seems to imply that you may have sent the mods some insulting messages as well.

So I’d say not power tripping bastards, at least in this specific case.

Cool idea although I don’t use any social media that allows for a display name that way. I like the emojis since it’s short and easy to type. Maybe a sunflower since it sort of combines both elements into one?🌻 But maybe that has other meanings. I kind of also want something to suggest a struggle. Maybe💪 or ✊?

The last one looks like spunk so I might not choose that one haha.

I was kind of wondering if that could be the case but I’ve just found the internet to be far more enjoyable if you just assume everyone is here in good faith. It might be a little naive but I’d much rather assume good intentions where bad ones exist than the opposite if I’m at all uncertain.

  • I've noticed a peculiar trend where Tankies are upset with people putting aesthetics over politics... While having soviet aesthetics on their own profiles. Projection?
  • LibertyLizard LibertyLizard 2d ago 100%

I feel like solarpunk is definitely opposed to liberalism. I mean, it doesn’t enforce ideological purity the way tankies do so maybe that’s the source of the confusion? But it’s, at its heart, an anarchist movement.

    > Gardening is not so much about following rules, says Rebecca McMackin, as it is about following rules of observation. For Ms. McMackin, the director of horticulture at the 85-acre Brooklyn Bridge Park, that means keeping in mind goals that will support wildlife in the garden, and the greater ecology. > > >Rather than following the common practice of planting and transplanting in spring, for instance, she suggests shifting virtually all of that activity to autumn — and not cutting back most perennials as the season winds down. cross-posted from: https://beehaw.org/post/16383867 >[ghostarchive link here](https://ghostarchive.org/archive/oUCHd)

A well-researched video that explains why some dense urban areas are quite expensive. TL;DW: Despite a substantial historic housing stock, our most expensive cities have built very little housing in recent years, leading to very low vacancy rates and high prices. Ramping up housing construction will be a necessary part of solving the affordability crisis.
