I work for a fairly large bank. Our manager left last October and has yet to be replaced. Just prior to him leaving, we had a CIO start that blew a massive amount of smoke to his ass, and no one questioned how she’d perform by looking at her prior publicly traded company role (bunch of grandiose promises, followed by a $2 million bonus, followed by her meaning to do it all again elsewhere. Here.) She’s been trying to ‘merge’ two dissimilar sister companies together, despite the fact they are mostly cloud based and their internal users are all programmers. We are a consumer lending bank. All self hosted everything, VDI, etc. but hey, #oneteam. Today, half of the team got title changes from “Infrastructure engineer” to “Senior Infrastructure Engineer” the other half of us… “Reliability Engineer.” Help desk became “Service Desk Engineer.” So, management decided to wipe their asses with the word ‘engineer’ and relegate half of us into the same pot as Tier 1 helpdesk. Certifications be damned. Makes you feel loved.

I've heard of a company's entire Azure tenant getting corrupted, or somehow becoming inaccessible for a long time. We've got a hybrid AD, in an Azure VM-Windows Server. We keep files in a server share, as well as in like 50 different Teams/SP libraries. I back up our server shares externally to an AWS bucket, in addition to Azure's built-in backup. I run test file restores once a month. We use Afi to backup mailboxes, Onedrives and Teams/Libraries. But the only backups of our AD are stored in Azure's backup; I've never tried to restore it. Should we consider what happens if our whole Azure/MS365 tenant goes sour? Do companies keep an alternate domain? Testing the viability of restoring AD and Teams to it? Should we have a plan in case Microsoft goes south altogether? Also, we're supposed to do vulnerability scans and network penetration testing, for our insurance policy. Should I be outsourcing DR planning and testing, along with scanning and pen testing? Thanks!

The RAID array contains the current backup files. TLDR; does anyone know if running the "reconfigure" RAID array wizard using OpenManage on a T620, PERC H310 going from RAID5 to RAID0 would cause data loss on the array, or keep the data intact?

Throwaway. The organization I work for is trying to restructure IT so that work is escalated more appropriately. Right now it's pretty devil may care but they want/need a more corporate and policy based support structure. We have about 1000 users, about 300 admin. Currently, Service Desk kind of handles everything that isn't on a server (and a good bit of server stuff too). My boss and I have talked about a new "T2/3" position that I could take on. The idea here is that Service Desk would be responsible for being T1 and then anything they couldn't figure out or the refining of processes would be escalated to T2. That team would be me and then possibly 2 contractors below me. On top of T2 support, the stuff I'd be doing day to day would include: PBX System Support/admin Messaging System admin T1 Office 365 admin (supported by sysadmin) Printer Server management SCCM Admin/Engineer -building and deploying packages, creating and maintaining images, regular software updates and cybersecurity patching as requested Asset Management -tracking IT assets like computers, monitors, mkb, etc. Intune T1 Admin (supported by sysadmin) It's kind of a lot but I think this is manageable for me + 2. None of this has effective tools built out so I'd be building or refining the tools for tracking and documentation myself. I'm working on a flow structure for support to give my boss. Supporting about 1000 users (and Service Desk) across a few buildings + remote, I'm looking to see what kind of salary I should be asking for. COL matters so I'm wondering what job I should look at for a comparable salary. What I want would be closer to a regular senior sysadmin ($85k where I am) since I'd be responsible for so much and kind of running the subdepartment. I also have about 10 years experience with SD and about 5 collectively with the above mentioned systems. I'd be reporting to the CIO I believe, possibly the SD manager. Any advice on positions that would have comparable pay rates to the duties listed above? SCCM engineer and asset management are heavily skewing the salaries I'm looking at and since I have no official training, just experience with them, I'm leaning lower than the rates for those positions. Thanks for your input in advance!

Essentially, HR sends out a list of staff movements between units every few months which on the sysad side involves removing the user from their current departmental security group and into their new departmental security group (possibly also OU). The script would have to be able to determine which group the user is currently in is the department security group , remove them from it, then add them to their new department security group. Ideally the script/tool is easy enough that a non IT person can use that way I can eventually push this task onto HR since they're the ones generating these movement lists.

Is this something we only do at home in a pinch, or would you be ok doing it in the workplace as well if, for example, we have a bunch of systems in deployment with useful life left on them? Assume the benefits of TPM 2.0 aren’t critical to us.

Both connectors have spf+ modules, but operate in different fixed modes, as configured from the switch, server network adapter themselves. According to my understanding the possible damage extent is from SFP module to SFP module and the switch and network adapter will not be damaged, however a clarification is needed.

I am trying to backup data from a clients PC and he has hunderds of files with file path name that is too long for 256 character limit. I tried backing it all up with total commander, but it gives me the same message, saying that the file name path is too long. I think there is an option for it, but I haven't found it after one hour. Could someone kindly assist me with this issue? Is there an option in total commander that enables copying files that are over limit? Is there any other software that you would reccomend me? I heard that Robocop is good for that, I found some GUI version and will try to back it up that way. I am still not sure if there are some parameters that need to be configured in order to copy long files. I thought that it is integrated by default in Total Commander?

I tried changing the hardware, connections etc. There is no firewall running on the dhcp server either. Would any of you have any idea why this could be?

It might be helpful for anyone facing similar challenges in their network setup. The Problem: We were experiencing difficulties accessing the web interfaces of certain devices on our LAN. After some troubleshooting, we discovered that the root cause was related to the Dell N3200 series switches and their handling of packet fragmentation during inter-VLAN routing affecting mostly clients on the WiFi but also just across Data/Security/Voice VLANs. The Solution: Thankfully, we were able to resolve the issue by specifying the Maximum Transmission Unit (MTU) of all the switches in our network. By setting the MTU to 1532 using the command #system jumbo mtu 1532, we successfully addressed the problem and regained access to the web interfaces of the affected devices. Explanation: The MTU defines the maximum size of data packets that can be transmitted over a network. In this case, it appears that the default MTU setting on the Dell N3200 switches was causing problems when routing packets between VLANs. The switches were not fragmenting the packets correctly, leading to issues with accessing web interfaces. By specifying an MTU value of 1532, we ensured that the switches would correctly handle packet fragmentation during inter-VLAN routing. This adjustment resolved the problem and allowed us to access the web interfaces without any further issues. Conclusion: If you're experiencing difficulties accessing web interfaces of devices on your LAN, particularly when using Dell N3200 series switches, consider checking the MTU settings. The default MTU might not be suitable for inter-VLAN routing and could cause packet fragmentation problems. By specifying a larger MTU, such as 1532 in our case, you might be able to solve the issue and restore access to the affected devices. I hope this information proves helpful to those who might encounter a similar problem. If you have any questions or additional insights, please feel free to share them in the comments.

We are currently reviewing or fire safety proceures and one major item is determining who is in the building and being able to produce an employee checklist. We have a door system, however 1. it does not track outoging staff 2. Tailgating is a big issue. We are a heavy office 365 enviornment, so it would be beneficial to integrate for ease into 365. Was initially thinking an office 365 clock in system that simply requests are you remote working or office working. Allowing staff to switch to remote if they leaving for meetings during the day. currently the line of thinking is a simple power app that will produce a 30 day log. Note; we are not looking to track employee productivity, soley if they are in the physical building or not.

We're not allowed to run TLS1.0 due to security concerns. So when we set up remote desktop without it, we get the old familiar problem from 2012 & 2016 that when we try to start the RDMS, it immediately stops again, just like with <https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/troubleshoot/windows-server/remote/rds-connection-broker-or-rdms-fails-caused-by-disabled-tls-10> - only that article says the fix is to upgrade to 2019 like we did. If we try to run without connection broker, we get "cannot connect to any of the specified RD Connection Broker servers. Ensure that at least one server is available..." Anyone have this issue?
