Wow. Qix for the GameBoy has a pretty weird game over screen! The whole game is super abstract — and then this! It’s a good port, though! #retrogaming #nintendo #gameboy

@zorrobandito@aus.social no, it is very different compared to the MD version. I guess this version and the MasterSystem version might be the same.

These first two levels are impressive and have lots of parallax scrolling, nice colors and even some subtle perspective 3D effects. This is definitely peak GameGear and in my opinion beats the GameBoy version. Disney games on SEGA consoles are mostly VERY good titles.

There are two versions: A Japanese one and a World version. The Japanese version seems slightly different apart from the language. The first two levels are action scenes where Aladdin is running through Agrabah and over the rooftops. Both sequences seem a bit longer in the Japanese version.

The game features lots of cut scenes that tell the movie‘s story. This is extremely useful and also very well done. The graphics are some of the best I have seen on the GameGear. Remember: this is a Z80 system with only a few kilobytes of RAM!
Next game on the GameGear: Aladdin. This is truly an amazing game, and one of the few I actually completed a couple of times. It helps that it has a password system… #sega #gamegear #retrogaming #aladdin
Another game from my GameGear flash cart: Aerial Assault. A very solid horizontal SHMUP. Nothing special, but fun. #sega #gamegear #retrogaming ![A 2D scene showing highrise buildings in a city. Spaceships coming in from the right while the player‘s plane is at the top left. ](https://lemm.ee/api/v3/image_proxy?url=https%3A%2F%2Fassets.chaos.social%2Fmedia_attachments%2Ffiles%2F113%2F296%2F494%2F524%2F091%2F694%2Foriginal%2Fa5ba4aec5078bbd2.jpeg)
And next on the GameGear: Addams Family. This is a classic platformer. Lots of small tricky sequences. I found the controls and collision detection lacking. Graphics look great for a GameGear game, though. But this is no Sonic… no level passwords, no continues, as far as I can tell… #retrogaming #sega #gamegear #addamsfamily ![An 8-bit video game scene features a character standing in front of a large tree with an expressive face. Backgammon is a solid implementation of the board game. Different levels give novices like me a chance to actually win!

Yacht is actually Yahtzee, but probably renamed for trademark reasons. The rules are a bit weird, full house counts as the dice values, not 25 points.

Reversi and checkers play as expected, too. I must say I am ver bad at both, failing to grab the border squares.

Chess is working as expected, but doesn't seem to have an opening library. Or not a very exhaustive one at least. Easiest level should be okay to beat for inexperienced players.
Checking out the GameGear library on my flash cart. First game is "5 in 1 Funpack" by Interplay. It's a game collection of 5 board games: backgammon, checkers, reversi, chess and yahtzee (here as "yacht"). #retrogaming #sega #gamegear ![Game selection screen showing the five games. ](https://lemm.ee/api/v3/image_proxy?url=https%3A%2F%2Fassets.chaos.social%2Fmedia_attachments%2Ffiles%2F113%2F281%2F705%2F022%2F692%2F415%2Foriginal%2F1e0771be5f00dbf9.jpeg)

@SpaceMan9000@lemmy.world Just search eBay... They are really straight forward. Bridge the solder jumpers, measure the pads to see if it worked -> done! :)
I learned about these neat USB boards. I think I will use one in 9V mode for the Atari 7800 as an alternative means of powering it. It might fit in one of the existing cutouts. #retrogaming #atari #atari7800

@bytex64@awesome.garden there are some games with battery backup. Ocarina of Time comes to mind. But also a handful more:
https://consolemods.org/wiki/N64:List_of_Nintendo_64_Games_with_Save_Batteries
This is Pilotwings 64 for the N64. It uses an unusual little EEPROM for savegames. I think I almost liked it better when they used battery backed SRAM. #retrogaming #NINTENDO #N64 ![The opened cartridge exposing a very small PCB with the usual CIC copy protection chip. I just tried RType II on the GameBoy for the first time. It’s hard. Or I am not very good at it. Looks great though! But it also slows down a lot when there are many enemies and the ship as some powerups! #retrogaming #nintendo #gameboy #rtype

@Toxic_Flange@infosec.exchange Amiga 500s are relatively easy to repair. Quite a bit more complicated than a C64 but still very well documented. You will fix it for sure!

What‘s your favorite Sierra game from the 80s to early 90s? I think for me it’s probably Space Quest III. It‘s a very short game, and not a great game, but I have a lots of nostalgia for it. #retrogaming #sierraonline
Blockout was one of the first games I played in the PC, a 286 back then. California Dreams didn’t make many games, and this one stood out due to its high res EGA graphics. #msdos #retrogaming ![The game‘s box but for the Amiga.
