Yeah. It seems fucked up and extreme that women have to consider these possibilities but yeah.
Whether this guy āonlyā planned to become overfamiliar and harass a lone female tenant or he planned to push the boundaries in another way, this guy very obviously didnāt have good intentions.
Kind of stressed out for any woman who canāt find somewhere else before her lease ends or if he learns to be less obviously creepy upfront
melbaboutown 2d ago ā¢ 100%
Yep. More than that he might have keys and could randomly let himself in when youāre not home, place hidden cameras, invite himself over when you are there and push boundariesā¦
He dived to try and create a situation where he could have a massive power differential with/access to a single woman. Which is not a safe situation.
And being a single isolated person does make you easier to bully/manipulate.
He seems like a massive creep and a danger

I planted the whole packet of 25 zucchini seeds (~3 in each paper cup) to avoid waste by letting them get old and non-viable, also in case of few actually germinating. Well it looks like so far 14 have popped. I have 12 pots.
Some are getting first leaves, a few have a second pair and others are just sprouting. Guess I see which survive snails/pests or are the healthiest.
I also sowed more spinach and Paris market carrots in window boxes. The pot is not large enough to grow many carrots but Iāll just use the seeds before they get too old.
Iād share with a seed library but itās not easy for me to get there

These are very good, I use the dish soap and vinegar or dish soap alone for a lot of things.
Sometimes an old kitchen scourer sponge gets a second life as a shower scrubber if itās not smelly.
Another one is citric acid powder for limescale and soap scum. (Sold at Colesworth in small containers. Basically generic Barkeepers Friend.)
I clean my washing machine by sending bicarb through on a long hot wash, then running vinegar through in the rinse.
I also add vinegar to the wash cycle for smelly laundry (seems to work better for odours than using it in the rinse - though it is a good alternative to fabric softener too).
I will say there is a risk of the vinegar damaging rubber pipes or seals, so you might not want to do it very often and/or at least run an extra rinse after the vinegar to dilute or wash it out. Donāt leave it sitting.
Edit: Filling sink drains with bicarb soda to sit overnight and then pouring a kettle of boiling water down helps get rid of smells, kills fruit flies living there and helps keep them clear. Pouring vinegar in the sink drain is also effective.
I use plain white vinegar in the generic 2L bottles for all of this.
But for fruit fly traps I get an empty plastic water bottle with a narrow mouth, pour a small amount of apple cider vinegar in and add a drop or two of dish soap. The acv attracts the insects with the smell, the narrow opening of the bottle makes it hard to fly back out, and the dish soap breaks the surface tension of the liquid so the fruit flies sink and drown.
Tip stolen from Smeg - mixing powdered icing sugar and borax in equal parts and leaving them around in tinfoil bowls is a good cockroach bait. Itās safer than poison and Borax has other uses around the house but please put these baits in places kids and pets canāt get to them. Borax is still toxic/not to be ingested.
Undiluted eucalyptus oil will also remove sticky adhesive residue like from price tags. This may also remove gum or ink stains. However be careful not to use it on plastic or laminate etc because they will be damaged or dissolve.
Also if using it on a reusable rag you might not want to send that through the dryer after washing in case any leftover volatile oil ignites.
Read up on using eucalyptus or orange oil in this way for full warnings.
Seems like a free version of Gumtree or the online equivalent of kerbside hard rubbish. Itās up to you whether you feel comfortable picking stuff up or having stuff picked up, but it might save some money on acquiring or getting rid of it.

This looks nice and simple for warmer months. Minimal cooking that can be done in a pan or maybe a small bbq outside. I donāt think chicken thighs are quite as cheap as they were but some prices arenāt bad. Try the bulk packs on special or at Aldi

I wonāt link as it would be a very specific and incomplete list but check out what your local library offers.
The waiting list may be very long but it says here that there is usually no cost in a public hospital as itās covered by Medicare. If you had been wanting it but money was the barrier.
This program launched 6 months ago but better late than never. There is apparently a questionnaire and the items are mailed to you so itās not anonymous, but the source (Family Planning) seems legit. I donāt have to tell you what the impact of unplanned pregnancy is on your career/finances or even just short term medical bills and time off work. Grab em if theyāre free, and also hand them out to your mates. For people over 30 and/or not in NSW the local family planning centres are likely to have these free as well.

The weather is warming up and itās good to put out water. Especially now Iāve got magpies here. However I stopped doing it because of potential disease transmission with avian flu. (Especially owning a vulnerable elderly cat - who is kept indoors but could get sick if I tracked something in.) Iām physically disabled so would have trouble cleaning and disinfecting the water containers daily. Whatās everyone elseās plan for managing this?
It isnāt easy for me to get to a tool library so I donāt use one, and I understand any hygiene concerns about shared toys (especially now). But if you need something youāre not likely to use regularly or your kids like variety these are a cost effective option. Some tool libraries have a low annual membership fee and some have criteria (such as being over 18 and signing a safety waiver). Iām not sure what a toy library involves.
I shouldāve posted this later in the month but wonāt remember. Here is the image as itās not wanting to show up ![](https://lemm.ee/api/v3/image_proxy?url=https%3A%2F%2Faussie.zone%2Fpictrs%2Fimage%2F04ec34f4-31ee-4893-98a8-6d0882668e11.jpeg)
Personal care products have gone up a lot and Cetaphil (multipurpose cleanser and makeup remover) has now been reformulated in a way thatās irritating to a lot of people, so here you go. While itās often considered as a moisturiser sorbolene was created as a gentle soap free cleanser and can remove makeup because of the oil in it - like dissolves like. I have even used it in the past to remove eye makeup. **Disclaimer:** Despite being gentle and unscented some people (unfortunately including me) can still be sensitive to sorbolene and find it causes stinging and redness. I have no idea whether this is due to the glycerin, the fact that it contains a small amount of detergent, or something else. ie. a damaged skin barrier, a reaction to a preservative, or just some kind of allergy. You might want to do a patch test first (which is a good idea for any new product) and be aware it wasnāt originally made to be left on your skin. However if your skin doesnāt have these sensitivities? Itās a great multipurpose product that removes makeup, can be used as a gentle cleanser or baby wash, and may be used as a basic face/body lotion *if it does not cause you issues to do so*. Try a small $2-3 bottle. If it works for you, spending $8 for a 1L multipurpose bottle may help you save heaps on all the specialised products.
I knew about sunscreen losing its effectiveness after expiration, but that apparently goes the same for toothpaste and mouthwash. It isnāt really a ābest beforeā situation for these things as much as a use by date. It can still be used after expiry. ie. toothpaste will still be a mild abrasive cleaner and mouthwash may remain antiseptic. However the fluoride will no longer be effective or protect against cavities. (And the sunscreen will let you burn.) Anyway. I just had the thought that as belts tighten there might be more people resorting to bulk buying or other cost effective measures, and wanted to share for others that didnāt yet know. Generally toothpaste is good for two years from the manufacture date so buy accordingly. Or if an older tube is given to you by a friend, food pantry or shelter you might want to throw it away and buy a fresh one.
I wasnāt a member but if you were make sure your passwords are unique
These are refurbished computers that may be bought by people who are eligible. Just to let you know though that they are not running Windows, they are all on Linux.
I donāt remember if Iāve shared this before but I was reminded by seeing that Clip Studio Paint can work on Linux via Wine. (Though apparently there can be difficulties and CSP can be expensive to buy outright or involve a subscription?) If you happen to have an iPhone (even secondhand and as old as iPhone 13ā¦ which is still pretty new tbhā¦) you can buy Procreate Pocket for a one off of $9.99 to draw on your phone with your finger or whatever cheap stylus. Procreate for iPad is $19.99. For Android there are [free or cheap options](https://www.reddit.com/r/androidapps/comments/162ukev/best_drawing_app_for_android_if_possible_free/) (Reddit link). [Ibis Paint seems to be a popular option](https://www.reddit.com/r/DigitalPainting/comments/1cmmtep/android_painting_app_best_for_finger_on_phone/#) (Reddit link) for Android phone (free with in app purchases) but isnāt the only one. Apologies that I canāt find a neat list of free Android apps that are specifically for phone - even with Boolean search the search engines seem to have enshittified and I am tired. Ps. Some might say that having an iPhone or iPad isnāt frugal. However it might have been a gift, bought before hard times came, secondhand, a work phone, part of a family plan, a loaner, a donation from a domestic violence service, or simply bought for the functionality to do everything without buying a separate computer. Letās not fuss about it. I think we can all work to get the most out of what we have regardless of what it is.
Have you found a good bargain lately, made a repair, or figured out something that works for you? This is also for any topic requests, suggestions, or tips that might not require their own thread.

Title. Iām still trying to get mine to work but in theory owning one of these will allow you to use a computer without a cd drive to play or rip cds, play dvds, and burn backup cds of your music. Obviously itās better to have a computer with a cd drive but this creates options if you donāt. Pairs nicely with secondhand cds and dvds from the op shop. Look for these usb drives on eBay and at Officeworks.
