Hi, I installed ubuntu server on a mac mini late 2012, and I have now (as expected) a problem with the firmware for the Broadcom network adapter / wifi card. I could install those firmware quite easily with the package `firmware-b43-installer` but I obviously cannot use `apt` to download and install this package. Then I thought to manually download the package from another computer and install it manually in Ubuntu. I saved the `.deb` into a USB stick and tried to install it, but this package depends on other packages that are not installed on the machine. Then I thought "ok, I'll do the same for the dependencies and I will install the manually before install the `firmware-b43-installer`". The problem is, of course, that also those packages depends on something else. I don't think is a good idea to go down into the dependency hole and look manually for all the depndendencies of the dependencies... there is a more efficient way to do this? There is a way to download a package with its recursive dependencies? Or somebody installed already Ubuntu (or a debian based distro) on a mac mini with Broadcom chip that can put me on the right direction? Thanks a lot.

Yes, I didn't research this extensively... it was more of a hunch. :D Yes, certainly, I simply thought that if you minimize phone usage, it would result in a longer battery life and fewer charging cycles, which in turn would reduce CO2 emissions... but I admit it's a bit of a stretch. :D

I hope you don't feel triggered by my question, I am genuinely curious, I swear. No judgment. Here my question: since bugs are part of this planet's life like all other life forms, don't you think that there is something wrong being so triggered from bugs?
I mean, it's normal to respect or to feel a kind of repulsion to some kind of insects, it is natural instinct that saved us from death, but being grossed by bugs in general sounds a bit too much to me.
I had a kind of phobia but when I realized that we are all part of the life on this planet, insects included, than something changed in me. I do not love insects, but I definitely do not feel reputation or fear anymore. I feel respect for some kind of insects (big spyders for example) and I try to build biodiversity in my garden for some others.
Sorry, I don't want to bother you or judge you, is it totally ok the way you are. I just kind of saw myself some years ago in our emotional answer.
Of course you can ignore this comment and it will be perfectly fine :)

Recently, I ran out of mobile data on my phone, and I was forced to browse at a significantly reduced speed. It was so slow that it was practically unusable, except for messaging apps. So, I developed a platform in the form of a search engine that allows browsing and accessing information while exchanging a negligible amount of data. This way, even with very slow or unstable connections, it became possible to search something on Google and read content. It can be useful as an emergency search engine. However, I must mention that the project is still in the proof-of-concept stage and has many bugs. Nonetheless, it has already enabled me to browse and search for information several times. I would be curious to hear your feedback, and I would be glad if it proves useful to someone other than myself! Additionally, it's worth mentioning that the visited pages are also accessible offline.

Grazie mille!

At the end I wrote my own little "search engine" to do that. Still buggy and not super fast, but it does what I need and I can now navigate also wit a bad connection https://blaze.cyclic.app

Nice. It's not exactly what I had in mind, though. Thanks for sharing.
Do you know any service that does that? Right now I have reached 5GB of my phone contract and I have to navigate with a very low speed. I was thinking to write a simple service that takes the URL as request and sends back the page but in read mode or in a very minimal way keeping focus only on the content. But I want to check if a service like this already exists.

Nowadays is only a matter of community and resources related to the language that one can find online. Php lost popularity and gained this image as a bad language, this brings a lot of devs to not use Php without a real factual reason. Is just not cool or they feel ashamed to tell that they work with Php.
If a dev works with typescript is more easy to find a lot of cool and pleasing resources, videos, articles. With php, for the reasons explained above, the stuff you can find it does not feel so cool as other mainstream languages. And here the game start over, for this reason less people use it and so on. This give to the entire php ecosystem a kind of "old" feeling and a lot of young devs just don't like it.
But rarely there are real reasons. With php 8 for sure there are not a lot of reasons to blame the language to be a bad language.
Until a couple of years ago I used to work with the last versions of php and I actually never felt the urges to redactor everything in some other language.
I am sure that php has limits, but in the same way as all other languages have their limits: they are just tools at the end.
Stop blaming php. Blame WordPress instead! :D
But I would ask he opposite question: can somebody make an argument to not use php? From a dev point of view.
