Robot moderation could be coming to your town

One of the first few instances I heard of was botsin.space, which has been around since at least 2017. Bots aren't new. (Not sure where you're pulling "AI" from, this is old* tech, and I don't mean that negatively)

(edit: I accidentally a word and didn't realize you wrote 'auto-report instead of deleting them'. Read the following with a grain of salt)

I've played (briefly) with automated moderation bots on forums, and the main thing stopping me from going much past known-bad profiles (e.g. visited the site from a literal spamlist) is not just false positives but malicious abuse. I wanted to add a feature which would censor an image immediately with a warning if it was reported for (say) porn, shock imagery or other extreme content, but if a user noticed this, they could falsely report content to censor it until a staff member dismisses the report.

Could an external brigade of trolls get legitimate users banned or their posts hidden just by gaming your bot? That's a serious issue which could make real users have their work deleted, and in my experience, users can take that very personally.

Seriously, it's one of those few bridge-crossing arguments which most people will agree on, from the communists to the liberals to the nationalists. Look at all that money going to the other side of the world. Look at the local living conditions. If the governments aren't keeping people poor, desperate and dying on purpose, then the choice of where to spend the money is obvious!

I have some empathy for those coerced into joining out of sincere ignorance (even though I believe they should know better). Eyes Left has an interesting example. The front lines radicalize some people into anti-imperialism, and if they have enough of a conscience to wake up and join the resistance, then I say have the potential to redeem themselves.

This tool was useful in a lot of ways when using tag style prompting, but as I move towards natural language prompts with newer models, a tag-based media software will make it harder to search and to compare prompts between images. Also, my hack was hacky and somewhat manual to use, images wouldn't automatically be imported when generated. ::: So I'd like to start using a purpose-made tool instead, but I'm struggling to find any other options. I'd rather know if a good tool exists before I start rebuilding my duct-tape conveyor belt.

On this note, another thing I appreciate is what they said about "Free" and "Libre": those names are great for saying "This is a free/libre/open clone of [x]", and that's what I'll think when I see it. Software like LibreOffice aims to support Microsoft Office documents, OpenRTC2 and OpenTTD are for people who want to see those games pretty-faithfully cloned, even if extended. Luanti is not OpenMinecraft.

IMO, the worst thing about "Minetest" is that it sounded like it was just a test creation, a prototype or experiment. It's certainly well beyond that now. The announcement introduction mentions people associate it with being a Minecraft clone or alpha release, but even further, to me the name initially gave me the impression it was [still] someone's small hobby project. 'Luanti' is much better.

    Not communist obviously

I find it's useful to select more descriptive terms than use the literal dozens of varying definitions of 'socialism' and 'communism'. The terms by themselves can be so vague that I can truthfully state this - "communism is the goal of communism!" A communist society, for example, is different from a communist party or a communist state (aka. Marxist–Leninist state), which are only parts of the communist movement and the communist school of thought. Obviously no-one looks at the PRC and sees a stateless, classless society, but that's an understandable (albeit condescending) interpretation of when people say "China is communist".

I didn't even think of dual cards, because I have an old & budget motherboard with one slot. But 2 x 16GB GPUs and a new motherboard (and if necessary, new CPU) and PSU and it might even still be cheaper than a 24GB NVIDIA for me. Of course I'd have to explore the trade-offs in detail because I've never looked into how dual cards work.

(but truth be told, I just as easily could settle for a 1x16 GB if I'm confident it would be able to train, even if slowly, AuraFlow or FLEX LoRas for the upcoming Pony v7 model. It's just a hobby.)

  • I want to buy a new GPU mainly for SD. The machine-learning space is moving quickly so I want to avoid buying a brand new card and then a fresh model or tool comes out and puts my card back behind the times. On the other hand, I also want to avoid needlessly spending extra thousands of dollars pretending I can get a 'future-proof' card. I'm currently interested in SD **and training** LoRas (etc.). From what I've heard, the general advice is just to go for maximum VRAM. - Is there any extra advice I should know about? - Is NVIDIA vs. AMD a critical decision for SD performance? --- I'm a hobbyist, so a couple of seconds difference in generation or a few extra hours for training isn't going to ruin my day. Some example prices in my region, to give a sense of scale: - 16GB AMD: $350 - 16GB NV: $450 - 24GB AMD: $900 - 24GB NV: $2000 edit: prices are for new, haven't explored pros and cons of used GPUs

Suggestions for a graphics workflow to add stylized dialogue to digital drawings?

Speech bubbles and other text can transform an image wildly, even just captioning existing images then sharing them is common practice. Unfortunately, some artists just aren't skilled at it. I've even seen highly skilled, emotive drawings with an MS Word plain-white speech bubble and Times New Roman text hacked over it by the creator, crushing the work's atmosphere. Matching the work's style is important. I would like a tool or workflow that lets me quickly add and adjust a stylized speech bubble to an artwork. I haven't really explored any templating/prefab/preset options in, say, Krita or GIMP or Inkscape, or any comic-making tool, so if there's a dynamic way to do this rather than me poorly copy-pasting-stretching a raster or manually drawing every time, I'd love to know. I really just want to avoid it taking more than a couple of minutes to add a *nice-looking* dialogue. Ideally: select a style, type in the text, and place it on the image. Some random examples of different forms text can take. ![](https://lemm.ee/api/v3/image_proxy?url=https%3A%2F%2Flemmy.ml%2Fpictrs%2Fimage%2F3c39bab2-6242-4c89-878d-bca3f7949b05.png) ![](https://lemm.ee/api/v3/image_proxy?url=https%3A%2F%2Flemmy.ml%2Fpictrs%2Fimage%2F7d35a2f6-4eea-4acc-844d-eee84e895a60.png) ![](https://lemm.ee/api/v3/image_proxy?url=https%3A%2F%2Flemmy.ml%2Fpictrs%2Fimage%2Fc61ccb46-4f01-4bc8-867e-47a0685e5ef4.png)

Any advice for generating reproducible images across devices?
  • comfy comfy 4w ago 100%

I haven't determined that. I only have one device set up to run SD and haven't organized any test with someone else.

I mean, if the concern is that tiling is a factor relative to non-tiling, okay, but if someone else is tiling, l’d think that they’d get the same output.

That's true, I'll check to see if the metadata mentions the tiling was used.

  • Any advice for generating reproducible images across devices?
  • comfy comfy 4w ago 100%

Good call-out. My (naïve) understanding is that tools like tiling VAE to handle low VRAM, and lowing steps in the more stable of the samplers, are going to have a generally negative impact on the result, and a very similar image with better detail could be remade using similar variables on better hardware. Maybe that's a bit idealistic. Like you said, the seed mode usually changes images with size. (You said 'usually', is there a way to minimize this?)

edit: I'm aware 'better' and 'higher quality' are vague and even subjective terms. But I'm trying to convey something beyond merely higher resolution.

    2
  • At the end of the day, my hardware is not appropriate for SD, it works only through hacks like tiling in A1111. And while that's fine for my hobby experimenting, I would like other people, or even myself once I finally upgrade my desktop, to be able to recreate my images in better quality, as closely as possible (or even try and create variations). I already make sure to keep the "PNG info" metadata which lists most parameters, so I assume the main variable left is the RNG source. Are any of the options hardware-independent? If not, are there any extensions which can create a hardware-independed random number source?

  • Every place has its different environment, whether it be the level of organisation, reputation of socialism, dominant values of society, history and experiences, conflicts and crises. Because of these dynamics, I'd expect to see stark differences in what the movement looks like around the world. An obvious example familiar to most here is seeing the widespread and militant union mobilisations in France's retirement age protests. **Which countries do you have experience in, and how are their labour movements different?** *The title is intentionally vague by saying 'labour movement', so you're welcome to talk about workplace attitudes, unions, socialist organisations, legislation and more.*

    108

[[Classical] Fascism](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Italian_fascism) was interesting for a few reasons, some of them being its relationship to the labour movement: - ᴉuᴉlossnW was a prominent socialist until their expulsion from the PSI for their nationalist views, and if we take them at their word in their last testament while captured by communists, they considered themself a socialist - Fascism managed to bring other former Marxist communists into their ranks, notably Nicola Bombacci, a founding member of the Communist Party of Italy in 1921 until their expulsion for fascist views in 1927 - Fascism was economically a class-collaborationist ideology (specifically *corporativism*, from the Latin *corpus*, body) Now, of course, we have the benefit of hindsight and can see what a disaster Italian fascism and its friends were and the name of 'fascism' is forever tainted. But theoretically a modern equivalent could similarly appeal to both nationalists and the socialist-leaning today in a similar way. Fascism doesn't logically imply racism, nor does it necessarily exclude certain types of progressivism: see BUF gaining large support from women by being pro-suffrage, see environmentalism of eco-fascists, and consider some modern neofash parties adopting social democrat policy points. **With all this in mind, what were the early warning signs that Fascism was not going to be pro-worker, despite its rhetoric? How well do you believe socialists will be able to spot them?**

[edit: disregard, see comments] Requesting the source files of emote images be downsized

This is mainly so that emotes will not be so disruptive to users on other instances. Due to how they are implemented, most of the emotes have the effect of flooding the comment sections when viewed from other instances, and due to the large amount of cross-instance posting, this is a real issue that makes even sympathetic users annoyed. Downsizing can be done pretty effectively with an automatic script, using something standard like ImageMagick to downsize them. So, it should not be hard or timetaking for the devs to do. This will also decrease their filesize, making them load much faster for everyone!

post-script: *This was evidently made in a hurry, so I'll need some help from you all in the comments to polish it or add anything important that I have overlooked. Or, you know, apply actual basic graphic design principles. Regardless, I think it will serve as a prototype guide for newcomers.* *I encourage using the crosspost feature to share this around where appropriate (this place has grown so much I haven't found all the relevant meta communities). All rights reversed, none reserved* *One more thing I didn't explicitly say was: seize this opportunity to do something new! While it is good to see a lot of fun communities moving over, we naturally run the risk of just replaying the same old game. Even just the little things like people recycling 'sub-lemmy' or 'lemmiquette' (which isn't even a pun anymore) and the same old in-joke memes. Be creative and fresh! That's how you build a community and prevent people just leaving after a month.*

I've already started seeing a lot of redundant communities being made here that have already existed on other Lemmy instances, and lemmy.ml is at risk of centralization and overload, so now is a great time to raise awareness of other instances. For science topics, [mander.xyz](https://mander.xyz/communities) has a lot of good ones set up, and [!solarpunk@slrpnk.net](https://slrpnk.net/c/solarpunk) on slrpnk.net has been great! edit: for new users - you can type `!` to begin autofilling a community, even for ones on other instances, like I did for the solarpunk community above. It may take a few seconds for the autofill results to show up if you have a slow connection like me.
