Ah, now that you mention it I see this in a lot of leftist circles. It's a shame that people can be so close, yet so far.

I can't speak for the subreddit, but I love the podcast and I'm definitely not a NATO enjoyer. I'm surprised that there are people that are who listen.

Very cool! It is always depressing, however, to hear about Japan's political environment. Do you know if the younger generation is becoming more open to leftist ideas?

For anyone who doesn't plan on watching the anime in full, the final closing goes unbelievably hard. https://youtu.be/b3HDHef3YTI?t=1163

This "anime" unironically helped me understand Engels' prefaces to Marx's works because I understood the context. lmao

Thank you. I feel like we all kind of know this is the case, but most of us don't think about it. Really good explanation.

Just get them to agree with you on things we actually believe in like corrupt corporations bad and gun rights good and then say yeah if only we had a socialist system all of that could be true.

Thanks for the suggestion! I'm having a lot of problems with Plex actually and their forum staff are kinda rude, so I was already thinking about finding another software. <3

Unrelated question, but how do both/either of you find "unbiased" information in English on the political environment within China. I have found it very difficult myself. (Assuming you don't speak Mandarin, that is.)

That's an interesting way of looking at it. It makes a lot of sense.

The man (manual) command is your friend! The syntax is “man [any command/program here no brackets]”
Thank you for this. Wow, I can't believe I didn't know about it lol.

Yes, I meant Celsius lol. I guess I'll have to look into getting more case fans. So do you think encoding at those temps for multiple hours in the meantime is a bad idea or just something I should fix eventually?
LightlyButteredToast 1y ago • 100%
I actually meant 80°C. 0_0
I'll edit my post.

I can't wait until there's a woke and anti-woke version of the same company in every industry, and they're all owned by Blackrock.
Although its just another OS, linux does have a major learning curve for the common GUI enjoyer like me. When you all were first learning linux, did you have a specific resource you learned from? Was it more like doing projects and learning on the way through forums?
I just set up my first Plex server and found that I have to convert all of my totally legally obtained MKVs to MP4s to run on Plex. Right now I'm encoding them with HandBrake and it's taking ~30 mins per file and using 100% of my CPUs capacity (running around 80 degrees C). Is this how most of you guys do it? or am I missing something? I'm concerned about hurting the lifespan of my CPU. Would using my GPU to encode be a better option?

I'm not familiar with the /r/fuckcars and !fuckcars@lemmygrad.ml communities. That being said:
Is it considered radical here to say that I think cars should be banned in city centers?
Because cars should be banned in city centers.

This is mine too. Whenever I watch an old show I go back and read through the episode discussion threads from years ago. Sadly, I don't think this is something that can be replicated here apart from new releases. :(
Whenever I talk to people who are apathetic to politics I always say "apathy is a political statement." I've found it to be pretty effective once I explain what I mean. Apathy is a privileged view of the world. This is a somewhat extreme example, but if you are apathetic to politics while there are people living on the streets you are essentially saying "those people's lives don't matter. I don't care if they die, are harmed by police, etc." This is how I converted my girlfriend actually. Good luck out there comrades. <3

Yeah, the system kind of sucks in that sense cause its really hard for new people to even get the karma to participate in karma-locked subs in the first place. Hopefully, lemmy will soon be large enough that we don't have to use reddit anymore though.
