Steam's new disclaimer reminds everyone that you don't actually own your games, GOG moves in for the killshot: Its offline installers 'cannot be taken away from you'

The end result is still part of GOG's revenue going toward the development of Heroic.

It doesn't meet your high standard and that's okay. I prefer to count my blessings in this regard.

It's not legally binding, since it isn't part of the user agreement you review when buying games on Steam.

There really is no difference. For almost all intents and purposes, GOG's offline installers can be treated the same way as physical CDs of way back then, with one of the only exceptions being that you cannot resell them.

Nowadays the Heroic Games Launcher is the preferred solution for downloading and running GOG games. It's a community-run project, but officially affiliated with GOG.

By now my GOG library has far exceeded my Steam library in size. I was surprised by how many games on my Steam wishlist are also on GOG.

For context, Steam is now forced to display this due to a new law passed in California: https://www.theverge.com/2024/9/26/24254922/california-digital-purchase-disclosure-law-ab-2426

Valve is not doing this out of the goodness of their hearts.

Additionally, the Heroic project is officially affiliated with GOG, so saying that they don't care is also wrong.

Have you tried the Heroic Games Launcher? It's currently the most advanced launcher for GOG games on Linux, even implementing support for some of GOG Galaxy's online services. Additionally it's officially affiliated with GOG, so you can "donate" to the project by purchasing games through the client.

How did you try to get The Thaumaturge to run? I found that I could run many games on my library without issue using the Heroic Games Launcher, which is arguably the premier Linux client for GOG games.

I don't know how you can say that it's not a competitor.

It's because they're hyperfixated on Linux, just like the majority of the Lemmy userbase.

In reality any x86-based handheld is potential competition for the Steam Deck.

It has now been 1 year since dormi.zone first entered the Fediverse on 2023-06-07, and it warms my heart to see that people are finding value in a community dedicated to Warframe. Thank you to everyone who's contributed, and a special thank you to @Keegen@lemmy.zip for hosting the Weekly Warframe discussions! Hello everyone! When this post is about 24 hours old, dormi.zone will be offline for multiple hours to upgrade Lemmy to version 0.19.3. This version introduces instance blocking for users and improves post ranking and two-factor-authentication. Be advised that this update will disable 2FA for all users who currently have it enabled. Hello everyone. As you most likely have noticed, this community (along with some communities on other Lemmy instances) has become the target of a spam wave that quickly rose to prominence across the Fediverse: https://techcrunch.com/2024/02/20/spam-attack-on-twitter-x-rival-mastodon-highlights-fediverse-vulnerabilities/ For a while I thought staying alert and catching spam posts manually would be sufficient to weather the storm, but I was wrong. ~~Even when I managed to remove posts immediately, it appeared as if the federation of either removals or reports was delayed, as I kept receiving plenty of reports by members of foreign instances for posts I had already removed.~~ I'm aware this spam has negatively impacted many users who view !warframe@dormi.zone, some of which have understandably seen themselves forced to block this community to keep the spam off their feed. I took too long to take proper action, and I'm sorry. A group of great Mastodon instance admins have managed to aggregate a list of instances that currently house the spam bots. As of now, dormi.zone blocks all instances found in [this list](https://github.com/Mastodon-DE/blocklists/blob/main/spam/2024-02-15/2024-02-15-spam-domain_mutes-erik-uden.txt). If you're at home on one of those instances and are now cut off from this community because of the block, please understand that this is currently the best option Lemmy by itself offers to contain these sorts of attacks. In the future, I will try to set up an AutoModerator that should handle these attacks more efficiently. Recent IRL circumstances have left me with limited time to look after dormi.zone, and I'm thankful for your patience in these times. EDIT: I have been informed by admins from other Lemmy instances that because of the specific moderation action I took (banning the spammers from this instance), post removals weren't federating, keeping the posts visible on some foreign instances. This is why I might have looked like I took days to remove some posts.

Merry Tennobaum everyone! A little more than a week ago, Lemmy 0.19 was released; you can [read more here](https://join-lemmy.org/news/2023-12-15_-_Lemmy_Release_v0.19.0_-_Instance_blocking,_Scaled_sort,_and_Federation_Queue). As of now, outgoing federation is broken with this version of Lemmy, even after an attempted fix in version 0.19.1. [View the related GitHub issue here.](https://github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy/issues/4288) Because of this, dormi.zone will remain on its current Lemmy version (0.18.5) for now. I'll keep you posted on any further plans. **Important:** Lemmy 0.19 introduces a new implementation of 2FA. Once dormi.zone upgrades to a newer Lemmy version, ***2FA will be disabled on everyone's accounts***. This is intended to give back access to any account you might have lost due to 2FA issues.
