You’re not finding any multiplayer game without some kind of kernel anticheat nowadays, not would you want to. If you think hacking is bad now, imagine how bad it’d be if memory edits were possible again and all the other methods that clientside protection does solve.

Also as soon as they pay you out they either jack up the rates to recover what you paid or drop you entirely as you’re no longer profitable. It’s such a massive conflict of interest

This is the thing a lot of Mastodon users seem to miss. I was on Twitter because of specific people and companies. They aren’t on Mastodon, so I have no use for it.

I feel like this came out of nowhere, but this seems like it’s going to be a giant benefit for Haas as a team. We could very likely see Toyota Haas in the next couple years. It’d be huge for them to move away from the dependency on Dallara for both design and manufacturing and could see them become a whole lot more competitive

I need a new rig soon, the F-GT is such an uncomfortable, low quality product that I just can’t justify the money on replacing.

I’m actually a mod over there, but as a general consumer of content, there’s not enough to make it a viable community. It’s seen a little more activity recently, but is overall a fairly small and dead community.

Simracing. We don’t relate to typical gaming at all. It’s all high end hardware, all very specialized and typically doesn’t interest normal gamers.
Subreddit mods are very against Lemmy or anything that moves them off the platform. The absolute butthurt rage for weeks after the protests proved that one right.
Mostly I just don’t see this platform as an alternative for medium sized communities. It works for large ones where there’s enough people that after a move if 25% transfer then you still have a lively community. Or for small communities where you can get 70%+ to move. But those mid size, 100k users on average communities trying to get them to move just ends up with a ghost town here.

They kinda do though. I can’t post about my gaming niche in a gaming community because it’s barely tangential, and still haven’t found 99% of the communities I had on Reddit.
Lemmy is good for /all, and that’s about it tbh

Going to be honest here
Windows is good for general professional use. Linux is absolutely terrible. MacOS is also decent.
Professionals use windows because everyone knows how it functions, it has robust and supported user management and Microsoft provides significant enterprise support to companies using their operating system.
Linux only has some of those features, they’re often half-assed or unsupported, and there’s no central authority for help.
It’s fine for personal machines, but I absolutely disagree that the only thing windows has going for it is popularity.

Darktable is fine as a hobbyist, but it doesn’t fully replace Lightroom when you get into semi-professional and professional workloads.
I need to give it another try, but my 12TB raw file library is so unwieldy to manage that I haven’t tried importing it all there. Plus the AI generative removal and Denoising is pretty important to a lot of my workflows.

The games that sit at the top of the player counts are almost always multiplayer competitive games. In a lot of ways, there’s been nearly 0 movement in the space at all since covid. The same games are still right there at the top because no new massively multiplayer game has released to top them. FPS players play CoD, Apex, Fortnite and Pubg, Dota is massive in Asian countries, GTA V has a huge cult following (check out its twitch category).
Satisfactory being top 10 is an outlier rather than the norm, being a single player game.
I agree with the other commenter who said that players of these games consider themselves players of Apex/CoD/Pubg before they consider themselves overall gamers. That’s the case with me now, and I rarely launch anything outside of CoD or Apex as I have little to no interest in single player games.

Generally these computer systems do access control, patient charting, intake management and most other critical functions, just like the rest of the world.
Blood banks and controlled medicines are likely gated behind access controlled doors, and without either it could cause major impacts to the ability to save lives

I’m not sure how much I’ll end up playing it as I’m primarily an iRacing user, but it’s great to see something new in the community that isn’t some rf2 reskin by Motorsport games

Do something worth applauding and maybe people will give credit. They consistently make choices and decisions that fans, drivers and teams are not a fan of and then wonder why everyone hates them.

Different people enjoy cars different ways. For many it’s just a tool to get from point A to point B. These are the majority, and tend to be a crowd who is now trending towards EVs and Self Driving Vehicles.
For others, driving is about the experience of how the car meets the road and is much less about the destination. I just planned a 10 hour drive with a group of my car friends with no destination, we’re just doing it to get out on some fun roads with our cars. These type of people love our manual transmissions, ICE cars and the experience of driving and see the car as less of a tool and more of a hobby and something to bring groups together.

For those with iRacing, how did Season 4 go for you? Make any progress towards some goals?

This weekend I got the chance to shoot my first rallycross event. Despite literal inches of rain, it was some of the most fun I’ve had with a camera. Nikon Z6, Z 24-70 2.8 S 70mm f7.1 1/1000s ISO 1000
Hadn't seen this posted, but for anyone who uses Trading Paints in conjunction with iRacing you need to go in and change passwords NOW! There was a leak of 270,000 accounts with emails/passwords in md5 format (easily reversible to plaintext) If you use the service make sure to reset your passwords asap and if you use the password shared on other services you should make sure to change it as well
Anyone want to run the 24 hour race at Le Mans in iRacing this weekend? Don't currently have an endurance team and just realized the race is coming up quick. Not super fast (like we know from the league), but pretty consistent and know the track/car well. I'd prefer the LMP2, but could drive a GTE too. Only requirement is a C class license and the track/car.

It's handled everything I've thrown at it so far, but it's struggling to keep up. The Seat on this rig has been ripped up by my cat, so a sweatshirt and a towel have gone into service covering up the very ripped leather. I plan on replacing the seat soon, so hopefully won't have that problem for more than another year or so. Wheelbase is a VRS DFP. It's amazing and I love it. Packs quite a punch and does really try to rip your arms off at full FFB. This is paired with a CubeControls QR (Also known as the aliexpress one) and an Ascher F64-USB. Pedals are also the VRS Pedals. Currently I only have 2 installed, but I do have the optional 3rd clutch that isn't mounted right now. The pedal plate flexes a lot more than I'd like, even with the additional strengthening kit from NLR. Rig is a dedicated sim PC with a 11900K, RTX 3080 and 32GB of RAM. Triple 32 inch 1440p/144hz monitors round out the setup, mounted to a Rigmetal Monitor Stand. I also have a Polsimer F74 that is no longer in use and a NLR GT Rim for if I need a round rim. I'm happy to answer any querstions! ## LEMMY iRACING LEAGUE Come join us this weekend on Sunday Aug. 6 at 2pm PT/5pm ET/9pm GMT/10pm BST for the inaugural Lemmy iRacing League. We'll be doing 2 15 minute races at Lime Rock Park (Grand Prix) and anyone is welcome to join (Though you will need an iRacing subscription) There'll be an extra session 2 hours before the race for anyone who may need help. Please reach out via DM if you need any help with any of it. Hope to see you all there!
Hey all, Sorry about the google forum, it's set not to collect any info, but we all know how much info that still means google will grab. I think that due to the spread of timezones interested we should plan to run the races on the weekend. They'd take ~30-45 minutes (Race length to be decided later) but shouldn't take more than an hour and a half maximum. Please select any timeslots that you're available for, we'll choose the one that the most people can make. To join the League you'll need to Search for the "Lemmy iRacing League", currently with id 10017. The correct one will link back to https://lemmy.ml/c/simracing as the website link. Request to join and I'll accept any incoming join requests.
When reading through some of the other comments on the page, I noticed there's a good number of people who at least have an iRacing subscription. Would there be any interest in a 1 month long, free content only league? It would allow people to try the sim for a minimum cost if they're interested. A 3 week mini championship with the MX-5 Cup, Formula Ford and Street Stocks could make for a lot of fun. I'd be happy to organize and cover hosting costs if we can get 5/10 people interested Edit: 5 Interested, I’ll put a poll together later and we can look at running this for the month of august.
