Lemmy.graphics

I don’t know how long this has been going on but I just realized Lemmy.graphics is returning a server error on desktop browsers. It appears to still be functional via mobile apps, which is good news, but I’m working to figure out what’s going on and will report back here once the issue is resolved. Sorry for the inconvenience!

I’ve been playing around with pixel art lately so I created a community for people to share theirs! Check it out at [c/pixelart](https://lemmy.graphics/c/pixelart)!

I created a new community for news and discussions about Generative AI at [c/genai](https://lemmy.graphics/c/genai). This **is not** meant to be an AI art gallery. Instead, it should be a place for discussions, news, and (respectable) debates about the topic. I’ve already pre-populated the community with some links I’ve found interesting over the past few months - go join and have fun!

Although I renewed SSL certificates about a month ago, something happened and it didn’t fully take. This caused the site to go down both on desktop and mobile. The issue has been resolved, and the instance is accessible as usual through mobile apps. Desktop is still touch-and-go, but I’m keeping an eye on it. I apologize for the myriad of tech issues we’ve experienced so far this year. Thank you for sticking with me through it all and I will do my best to make things as smooth as possible moving forward.

This is related to [this post](https://lemmy.graphics/post/73363), but I still see this issue pop up fairly regularly. As far as I can tell it's a bug in the latest version of Lemmy, so we might just have to "deal with it" for now. This only affects the desktop experience - accessing the instance through the API via an app works perfectly fine. I'm going to leave this up for the time being so hopefully people understand that when the site "goes down", it's not *really* down. Thanks for understanding, everyone!

Thanks to some help from the community I managed to get the instance updated to v0.19.1. Please let me know if you experience any issues now that we're on the latest release. I'll do my best to keep things more up-to-date around here moving forward.

Hi. If the admin is reading this, are there any current plans to update from version 0.17.3 (the current version of the Lemmy.graphics instance) to the latest Lemmy version which is 0.19.0? Many users, whether they be ones who are planning on joining the instance or are from other instances, will greatly appreciate it.

We might briefly go offline tonight around 10pm EST as I perform some routine upgrades. I'll repost here when everything is set! Update: Everything is good to go for now! I attempted to upgrade to the latest version of Lemmy but it appears there are still some hiccups that will require special attention so I reverted us back to v0.17.3 for the time being. I will try again this weekend when I have more time.

EDIT: This has been resolved! I discovered earlier today that our SMTP server is not working as expected, so new signups will not work properly at the moment. Please be patient and I will update here when it's fixed!

Hi, everyone! I'm Aaron, and I'm a 3D designer that joined Lemmy during the Great Reddit Migration. I consider myself a generalist but I thrive in the world of lighting, rendering, and compositing. I run a small animation studio where I do a lot of work in advertising and indie feature VFX, and in what little spare time I have, I develop the unofficial [Arnold for Blender](https://github.com/lunadigital/btoa) add-on! I noticed there didn't seem to be many communities around computer graphics, so here we are! I'm hoping that if you love to browse subreddits like r/3dmodeling, r/vfx, r/animation, and others, you'll find yourself right at home here. Welcome! If you're interested in more general film conversations, check out the communities over at [Lemmy.film](https://lemmy.film/)! # What the heck is this place? Lemmy.graphics runs on [Lemmy](https://join-lemmy.org/), a self-hosted social link aggregation and discussion platform. Think of it like Reddit, but instead of everything under one site it's split between thousands of interconnected ones. That might sound confusing, but it's actually really easy to engage with communities all over the Lemmyverse. Check out this [Getting Started Guide](https://lemmy.world/post/37906) for more info! Lemmy is completely free and open, and not controlled by any one company. This means that there is no advertising, tracking, or secret algorithms. # Can I create a community for *X* topic? Because we're so small right now I'm limiting new community creation to admins only, but chances are pretty darn good I'll greenlight whatever you want as long as it's tangentially related to computer graphics. Just open a new conversation here with the topic idea, community name, and whether or not you want to be a mod and I'll set it up.
