what we call turnips in the US are apparently a different species than what we call rutabagas, which Europe calls Swede/neep/tumshie/etc. These were probably the first type of vegetable to be carved into spoopy lamps for Samhain and related fall festivities

at least that's what I've gathered from reading Wikipedia and the internet

US turnips are a lot softer and would probably be easier to carve but have less longevity (haven't tried myself)

Ah, so the scratch removal, not the sanding, is what improved the nonstick attribute. Thanks for clarifying

Can you elaborate on sanding to create a nonstick surface? How long does it last/does it require periodic re-sanding? Does it make it harder or easier to clean burned on residue?

a novelization of one of my favorite video games

I suffered through it because I love the franchise so much and it wasn't that long but holy shit, I was the writing quality of a grade schooler but with added unnecessary and gross romance between two children.

NJ Transit tickets expiring, possible to give away?

I have a NYP←→Trenton NEC 1-way expiring tomorrow. If l activate it and post the QR code, is it possible for somebody to get some use out of it? (I don't take NJ Transit often, so no idea) Edit: ticket was successfully redeemed! :)

I've noticed that rather butch-styled gals often seem to enjoy wearing brightly colored and patterned, feminine Wellies style rain boots meanwhile the most high femme, wearing-waterproof-full-face-makeup-in-a-downpour girly gals will strap on some duck boots made for stompin' both of these aesthetic juxtapositions make my lil gay heart melt. that is all

I think one depressing example is innovation in weapons and other dangerous fields. "If we don't build it, someone else will first" is unfortunately historically been shown to be true, has it not? Today's unsavory borderline reactionary doomposting brought to you by: my crippling fear that I'm isolating myself in a political echo-chamber (so naturally I gotta hop online and exclusively ask my fellow leftists)

TIFU by trying to clean an inkjet printer with rubbing alcohol

disclaimer: was not today, was years ago when I was in high school Did you know most consumer inkjet printers use either a piezoelectric crystal or a tiny heating element in each print head to produce small, consistent ink droplets? *I didn't!* So I tried cleaning my mom's printer heads with rubbing alcohol. Which unclogged them! And then promptly set the printer on fire after being ignited by the heat and/or sparks. My family will never let me live this down.
